Welcome to our social media posting guide part 2! Don’t let the order confuse you. You can work backwards and read this blog before part 1.
Social media might seem like an uncrackable enigma, so you pushed off doing it, or maybe you did it for a while, but it never really made an impact. Well, our social media posting guide is here to rescue you!
Okay, “rescue” might be a stretch. After all, there’s still a considerable amount of work to be done on your part. However, this guide can help you get started and avoid some areas of weak engagement.
We’re going to talk about what to post and when, however, always remember to stay reactive. Different businesses and industries might require tweaking. If something is working, keep doing it. If it’s not, change it up!
Twitter is where the world tends to go to find out about breaking news, but you can also find some lighter content here or climb inside the brain of everyone’s favourite electric-powered billionaire.
Best Times To Post
There’s actually two answers here.
First, you can post during times of high engagement. That’s lunchtime, the midday slump from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., and right after work. People often check out their Twitter feeds during these times.
However, because of the news-centric content style of Twitter, it is sometimes best to simply post things as they happen
Times To Avoid
As with just about every other platform, weekends are to be mainly avoided. Anytime after 8 p.m., even on weekdays, should also be avoided. People tend to be done with their news consumption at that point and will just wait until the following morning to catch up.
What To Post
As we mentioned before, Twitter is a news-heavy social media platform. So, company updates and announcements fit in well here.
You can also hop on a few of the top hashtags of the day or retweet a few bigger accounts for a chance at some easy engagement.
YouTube
While some might not consider YouTube as a social media platform, it absolutely is! It also has an added bonus of being the second most used search platform behind Google.
Best Times To Post
Finally, one social media platform is here to buck the trend!
While weekdays during lunch or early in the morning can give you success, the best times to post on YouTube are actually weekends. Sundays are actually the most popular time for people to binge videos and anytime closely following 5 p.m. is a solid time to post.
Times To Avoid
This one is easy, when 9 p.m. rolls around, no matter the day, don’t bother posting. Viewers and engagement drop off pretty dramatically after that.
What To Post
The good news is that YouTube is pretty varied when it comes to what content you can find. Education content works well and behind the scenes or vlog style videos go a long way.
LinkedIn is the business-focused side of social media and one of the four most popular channels in the world. Businesses, especially B2B businesses, should be utilizing it.
Best Times To Post
LinkedIn has pretty steady engagement rates Tuesday to Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is a small drop-off on Mondays and Fridays but can still be worth it to post on those days.
Times To Avoid
Being the aforementioned business-focused social media platform of choice, any personal time (weekends and after work) is not a great time to post here.
What To Post
LinkedIn is sort of an anomaly when it comes to content. Stuff that would never work on other social media platforms, like a long-winded opinion piece about work culture, will stir up fantastic conversations on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is the perfect place to do some engaging yourself by commenting, reacting, and sharing other posts.
